Biography

Tod Laursen is an Assistant Professor and Director of Graduate Studies of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from OSU in 1986, and MS and PhD degrees from Stanford University in 1989 and 1992, respectively. His specialty is applied mechanics, particularly nonlinear effects in finite element modeling. He has been honored as the Hunt Faculty Scholar in the Duke University School of Engineering. Significant achievements include his being awarded both a National Science Foundation Career Award and an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award in 1997, which provide funding for his research for some time.
